Due to ongoing concerns about COVID-19, the American Advertising Awards competition rules, categories and entry procedures for 2022-2023 have been modified to allow for the possibility of remote online judging.

In some categories, entrants are allowed and/or required to upload additional digital examples of an entry. This is intended to provide more appropriate content for the judges, should a virtual judging solution be necessary. For most categories, there has been no change from prior competition years.

Please carefully follow all online submission guidelines provided within the entry system, in order to ensure that your work is properly represented during all three tiers of the American Advertising Awards competition.

The American Advertising Awards, home of the ADDY® Award, is one of the industry's largest creative competitions, attracting nearly 30,000 professional and student entries each year through competitions offered through local AAF clubs. The mission of the American Advertising Awards is to recognize and reward the creative spirit of excellence in advertising.

Conducted annually by the American Advertising Federation (AAF), the local Ad Club phase is the first of a three-tier, national competition. Concurrently, all across the country, local entrants vie to win ADDY Awards - recognition as the very best in their markets. At the second tier, local ADDY winners compete against winners from other local clubs in one of 15 district competitions. District ADDY winners are then forwarded to the third tier, the national stage of the American Advertising Awards. Entry in your local Ad Club competition is the first step toward winning a national ADDY.

Submissions for this year’s American Advertising Awards will open on December 1, 2021. The final date to submit is January 7, 2022. 

The American Advertising Awards (formerly the ADDYs) is the advertising industry’s largest and most representative competition. The mission of the Awards competition is to recognize and reward the creative spirit of excellence in the art of advertising done during the previous year. Winners are selected by the judges and given a Gold or Silver award.

This is the most exciting AAF Charlotte event of the year where the whole of the Charlotte advertising community comes together to support the work of both professionals and students.


The American Advertising Awards competition rules, categories and entry procedures for 2021-2022 have been modified to allow for virtual-only judging.

  1. Again this year, we WILL NOT accept a physical submission as part of the entry process. All entries can be handled online in the OpenWater software. This means the judges will not require a physical printout or physical sample of the entry to judge.

  2. In all categories where a physical printout is typically needed, entrants are allowed to upload a written description, video, photography and/or any digital examples of the entry to help with judging.

  3. With this in mind, there WILL NOT be a physical entry drop-off location this year. If a check needs to be mailed please send it to 5970 Fairview Rd. Suite 610, Charlotte, NC 28210 (Attn: AAF Charlotte).



  • Early Bird Deadline ($10 discount): Friday, December 17, 2021, by 11:59 pm
    • Members: Single Entry is $80  /  Campaign Entry is $95
    • Non-Members: Single Entry is $115  /  Campaign Entry is $135
  • Final Deadline: Friday, January 7, 2021, by 11:59 pm
    • SPECIAL MEMBERSHIP DISCOUNT ($10 OFF): Members: Single Entry is $90  /  Campaign Entry is $105
      • Last year, we offered a special $25 discount on member entries since we did not host an in-person gala. This year, we are offering a $10 discount but will be hosting an in-person gala; one gala ticket is included for each individual membership. 
    • Non-Members: Single Entry is $125  /  Campaign Entry is $145
