Due to ongoing concerns about COVID-19, the American Advertising Awards competition rules, categories and entry procedures for 2021-2022 have been modified to allow for the possibility of remote online judging.

In some categories, entrants are allowed and/or required to upload additional digital examples of an entry. This is intended to provide more appropriate content for the judges, should a virtual judging solution be necessary. For most categories, there has been no change from prior competition years.

Please carefully follow all online submission guidelines provided within the entry system, in order to ensure that your work is properly represented during all three tiers of the American Advertising Awards competition.

Please note that online judging is approved for THIS YEAR ONLY.

The American Advertising Awards, home of the ADDY® Award, is one of the industry's largest creative competitions, attracting nearly 30,000 professional and student entries each year through competitions offered through local AAF clubs. The mission of the American Advertising Awards is to recognize and reward the creative spirit of excellence in advertising.

Conducted annually by the American Advertising Federation (AAF), the local Ad Club phase is the first of a three-tier, national competition. Concurrently, all across the country, local entrants vie to win ADDY Awards - recognition as the very best in their markets. At the second tier, local ADDY winners compete against winners from other local clubs in one of 15 district competitions. District ADDY winners are then forwarded to the third tier, the national stage of the American Advertising Awards. Entry in your local Ad Club competition is the first step toward winning a national ADDY.

WHAT ARE THE AMERICAN ADVERTISING AWARDS?

The American Advertising Awards, home of the ADDY® award, is the advertising industry's largest and most representative competition, attracting over 40,000 entries annually across local chapters of the American Advertising Federation (AAF) competitions. The mission of the American Advertising Awards is to recognize and reward the creative spirit of excellence in the art of advertising.

Conducted annually by the AAF, chapter-run American Advertising Awards contests are the first of a three-tiered, national competition. Concurrently, all across the country, local entrants vie to win an ADDY® award -- recognition as the very best in their markets. At the second tier, local winners compete against selections from other local clubs in one of 15 district competitions. District winners are then forwarded to the third tier, which is the national stage. And entry in your local AAF chapter competition is the first step toward winning a national ADDY® award.

Entering the American Advertising Awards supports the entire advertising industry. The AAF, along with its local and district affiliates, use the proceeds to enhance advertising through programs such as public service, internships, advocacy groups, advertising education and consumer awareness.

HOW DO I WIN AN ADDY AWARD?

Selection of the most creative entry in each category is affected by a scoring process in which a panel of judges evaluates all creative dimensions of every entry. A Gold ADDY is recognition of the highest level of creative excellence and is judged to be superior to all other entries in the category. Entries that are also considered outstanding and worthy of recognition receive a Silver ADDY.

WHO CAN ENTER?

This competition is open to all creative services and industry suppliers including but not limited to advertising, graphic design, photographers, printers, newspaper, radio, television, web, marketing and communication professionals as well as students studying in these areas. All creative submissions must have run between January 1, 2021, and December 31, 2021. All submissions entered into the AAF Suncoast competition must have been created in Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte, Hardee and Desoto counties. If the work was not created in one of these counties, please ensure you enter through the correct club in the AAF Fourth District

CAN STUDENTS SUBMIT ENTRIES?

Yes! The Student Division of the American Advertising Awards competition, sponsored by the AAF and Ad 2 National, is a unique national awards program designed specially for college students. Work entered at your local level can move up to the regional and national judging -- just like the work entered by professionals across the country.

Applicants must be enrolled full- or part-time in an accredited U.S. educational institution. Students may submit work developed specifically for this competition or from previous projects or student contests.

Work must be created while the entrant is a student not employed in the advertising industry. Student interns are eligible to enter as well. Before submitting online, please review the categories and rules of entry:

DO WE NEED TO SUBMIT PHYSICAL ENTRIES THIS YEAR?

No physical entries are required. Again, judging of all work will be conducted virtually this year because of COVID-19 precautions. It’s important to upload a PDF of the ENTIRE document or a video showing your entry to facilitate online judging. In some categories, entrants are allowed and/or required to upload additional digital examples of an entry. This is intended to provide more appropriate content for the judges. For example, if you submitted an annual report or a printed package as your entry, you can attach photos of the interior and exterior of the piece as well as a video highlighting key pieces of the work for the judges to watch. Since these images and videos are replacing the physical entry, be mindful in making sure these pieces represent your entry in the best way possible!
