Due to ongoing concerns about COVID-19, the American Advertising Awards competition rules, categories and entry procedures for 2020-2021 have been modified to allow for the possibility of remote online judging.
In some categories, entrants are allowed and/or required to upload additional digital examples of an entry. This is intended to provide more appropriate content for the judges, should a virtual judging solution be necessary. For most categories, there has been no change from prior competition years.
Please carefully follow all online submission guidelines provided within the entry system, in order to ensure that your work is properly represented during all three tiers of the American Advertising Awards competition.
Please note that online judging is approved for THIS YEAR ONLY.
The American Advertising Awards, home of the ADDY® Award, is one of the industry's largest creative competitions, attracting nearly 35,000 professional and student entries each year through competitions offered through local AAF clubs. The mission of the American Advertising Awards is to recognize and reward the creative spirit of excellence in advertising.
Conducted annually by the American Advertising Federation (AAF), the local Ad Club phase is the first of a three-tier, national competition. Concurrently, all across the country, local entrants vie to win ADDY Awards - recognition as the very best in their markets. At the second tier, local ADDY winners compete against winners from other local clubs in one of 15 district competitions. District ADDY winners are then forwarded to the third tier, the national stage of the American Advertising Awards. Entry in your local Ad Club competition is the first step toward winning a national ADDY.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR THE 2021 AMERICAN ADVERTISING AWARDS. PLEASE READ BEFORE CONTINUING.
THIS YEAR, ALL LEVELS OF THE COMPETITION – LOCAL, DISTRICT, AND NATIONAL – WILL BE JUDGED ONLINE. NO PHYSICAL ENTRIES WILL BE NEEDED FOR ANY LEVEL OF THE COMPETITION.
This is critical information you need to know regarding how to enter as well as definition of categories. Please note there have been changes to the Rules and Categories for 2021. Changes for 2021 are in red. Please read these TIPS and RULES & GUIDELNES and the FAQs below as you begin preparing your entries.
ALL ENTRIES MUST:
- Meet all eligibility and deadline requirements on page 2 of the guides above.
- Be entered in the correct category and be correctly identified.
- Conform to defined submission requirements.
- Conform to all copyright laws.
LOCAL ONLY CATEGORIES: In addition to the categories in the guides above, AAF-Houston also includes “local only” categories for Retail, Healthcare, Real Estate, Energy and Covid/Pandemic Response (NEW). These entries only compete with other Houston-area entries, but do not move on to the District or National competitions.
ENTRY UPLOADS: ALL entries, including physical, broadcast and digital, MUST be uploaded into the competition software regardless of category and will be judged from the Judging Portal of the competition site. No physical work samples will be accepted this year. The file format for uploading most entries, including screen shots, is high res PDF. There is no maximum file size. For best viewing of PDFs by the Judges, we suggest also uploading a reduced size PDF. It will not affect the quality of the image.
Uploads will also be used for award shows on the local, district and national levels. IF YOU FAIL TO UPLOAD A COPY OF YOUR ENTRY OR CREDITS, YOUR ENTRY WILL NOT BE INCLUDED IN THE PROGRAM BOOK OR THE SHOW.
For digital entries: Digital files or URLs may be uploaded. Screen shots MUST also be uploaded for all DIGITAL entries. These may be used in the show and/or programs.
ENTRY CREDITS: Remember that credits are not just for the local use, but for district and national as well. All credits must be included at the time of your entry submission. Please proof carefully, use proper punctuation and abbreviate where possible if you have a large number of credits. YOU WILL NOT HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO ADD OR MAKE CHANGES TO CREDITS AFTER YOUR ENTRIES HAVE BEEN SUBMITTED.
NON-ENGLISH LANGUAGE ENTRIES: An English translation of the copy or script must be included as a PDF.
PLEASE NOTE: There is no guarantee that medals will be awarded in all categories. This is determined by the judges scores.

MEMBER ENTRY FEE – SINGLE: $125 per entry, ADD $25 LATE FEE after 12/31/2020
NON-MEMBER FEE – SINGLE: $150 per entry, ADD $25 LATE FEE after 12/31/2020
STUDENT ENTRY FEE – SINGLE: $50, ADD $25 LATE FEE after 12/31/2020
ENTRY FEES FOR CAMPAIGN ENTRIES
MEMBER ENTRY FEE – CAMPAIGN: $150 per entry, ADD $25 LATE FEE after 12/31/2020
NON-MEMBER FEE – CAMPAIGN: $175 per entry, ADD $25 LATE FEE after 12/31/2020
STUDENT ENTRY FEE – CAMPAIGN: $50, ADD $25 LATE FEE after 12/31/2020
LATE FEES APPLY AFTER 12/31/2019 THROUGH JANUARY 5, 2021. NO EXCEPTIONS. NO ENTRIES ACCEPTED AFTER JANUARY 5, 2021.
PLEASE NOTE: To take advantage of the lower “member rate entry fees” you or your company MUST be a current paid member of AAF-Houston at the time of your entry. If you are not, you will be invoiced and responsible for paying the difference. If you are unsure of your membership status, please e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org. Our goal is more members and less non-member fees, so please consider joining and receiving the benefits of membership all year long. We welcome your membership.
INVOICE / MANIFEST FORM
You will be required to sign an Invoice / Manifest Form, listing all of your entries. This form states that by signing below you: 1) Verify that the above information is accurate; 2) Acknowledge that proper rights were obtained for use of any elements of the entry that were not original; 3) Agree to submit documentation deemed necessary for review; 4) Release the entry for Internet, broadcast and/or print (allow reuse of material); and 5) Verify that the entry was created within the local MSA of the competition; 6) Acknowledge that all work submitted becomes the property of AAF and AAF-Houston; 7) Acknowledge that NO REFUNDS will be made for entry or event tickets fees.
IMPORTANT LAST STEP: For your entries to be complete, you MUST print this Manifest form, SIGN it, SCAN it and E-MAIL a copy to: email@example.com Your entry WILL NOT BE FINAL until this step is completed. Thank you.
WINNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED AFTER JANUARY 20, 2021, VIA THE E-MAIL ADDRESS PROVIDED WITH ENTRIES.
