Due to ongoing concerns about COVID-19, the American Advertising Awards competition rules, categories and entry procedures for 2020-2021 have been modified to allow for the possibility of remote online judging.

In some categories, entrants are allowed and/or required to upload additional digital examples of an entry. This is intended to provide more appropriate content for the judges, should a virtual judging solution be necessary. For most categories, there has been no change from prior competition years.

Please carefully follow all online submission guidelines provided within the entry system, in order to ensure that your work is properly represented during all three tiers of the American Advertising Awards competition.

Please note that online judging is approved for THIS YEAR ONLY.

The American Advertising Awards, home of the ADDY® Award, is one of the industry's largest creative competitions, attracting nearly 35,000 professional and student entries each year through competitions offered through local AAF clubs. The mission of the American Advertising Awards is to recognize and reward the creative spirit of excellence in advertising.

Conducted annually by the American Advertising Federation (AAF), the local Ad Club phase is the first of a three-tier, national competition. Concurrently, all across the country, local entrants vie to win ADDY Awards - recognition as the very best in their markets. At the second tier, local ADDY winners compete against winners from other local clubs in one of 15 district competitions. District ADDY winners are then forwarded to the third tier, the national stage of the American Advertising Awards. Entry in your local Ad Club competition is the first step toward winning a national ADDY.

FAQs:

How do I submit an entry?
In addition to an electronic submission, the American Advertising Awards requires all physical entries to be submitted using plastic zip bags or large manila envelopes. Clear plastic bags are preferred. However, manila envelopes with the entry form taped to the outside are acceptable. See the rules and categories documentation for specific details. These steps should be followed:

1.     Complete your online entry.
2.     Print out the entry form.
3.     Cut out the entry numbers (included on your printed entry form)
4.     Affix one entry number to the back upper right-hand corner of your printed entry
5.     Place the entry inside the clear submission bag, facing out.
6.     Place two (2) copies of the entry form inside the clear entry bag. Place back to back with the entry, also facing out.
For entries submitted in manilla envelopes, adhere one copy of the entry form to the front of the envelope and one inside with the entry.

What file format should my submission be?
All entries—including BROADCAST and DIGITAL screenshots—should be uploaded as hi-res PDFs or JPEGs.

How do I submit my BROADCAST or DIGITAL entry?
Broadcast entries must be uploaded to the ADDY site and will be judged from the site.
Note: These entries are sent directly to judges for review and scoring.

Where do I get the entry bags?
Clear plastic zip bags can be found at most office supply stores or online

Where do I send completed print entries?

What if my entry doesn’t fit in a bag?
Use your own manila envelope or a box for 3D items. No envelopes larger than 30inches. 10x16 is ideal.
For posters or other large format items, provide reduced size prints or photographs of the creative.
Make sure the entry includes a copy of the entry form on the front of the envelope or top of the box, and a second copy inside.
Also be sure entry number labels are attached to all parts of the entry.
