The American Advertising Awards, home of the ADDY® Award, is one of the industry's largest creative competitions, attracting nearly 35,000 professional and student entries each year through competitions offered through local AAF clubs. The mission of the American Advertising Awards is to recognize and reward the creative spirit of excellence in advertising.

Conducted annually by the American Advertising Federation (AAF), the local Ad Club phase is the first of a three-tier, national competition. Concurrently, all across the country, local entrants vie to win ADDY Awards - recognition as the very best in their markets. At the second tier, local ADDY winners compete against winners from other local clubs in one of 15 district competitions. District ADDY winners are then forwarded to the third tier, the national stage of the American Advertising Awards. Entry in your local Ad Club competition is the first step toward winning a national ADDY.

Note: this information is critical and includes category details and submission instructions. This should be printed out, read, and used as a guide in preparing your entries.

On Time Entries Due: January 4th by 4pm / Late Entries: January 8th by 4pm

ALL entries, including broadcast and digital, MUST be uploaded into the ADDY software regardless of category. 

Uploads will be used in the ADDY program book and award shows on the local, district and national levels.  IF YOU FAIL TO UPLOAD A COPY OF YOUR ENTRY OR CREDITS, YOUR ENTRY WILL NOT BE INCLUDED IN THE PROGRAM BOOK OR SHOW. You will not have the opportunity to upload after your entries have been submitted.
 

How do I submit an entry?

In addition to an electronic submission, the American Advertising Awards requires all entries to be submitted using the plastic submission bags or large manila envelopes. Approved clear plastic bags are available at no cost or feel free to use the manila envelopes with the entry info taped to the outside. See National rules for additional details. The following steps should be followed:

1.     Complete your online entry.

2.     Print out the entry form.

3.     Cut out the entry numbers (included with your printed entry form)

4.     Affix one entry number to the back upper right-hand corner of your printed entry*

5.     Affix another copy of the entry number to the upper right-hand corner of the submission bag

6.     Place the entry inside the clear submission bag, facing out.

7.     Place two (2) copies of the entry form inside the entry bag. Place on the opposite side from the entry, facing out.

What file format should my submission be?

All entries—including BROADCAST and DIGITAL screenshots—should be uploaded as hi-res PDFs.

How do I submit my BROADCAST or DIGITAL entry?

Broadcast entries must be uploaded to the ADDY site and will be judged from the site. 

Note: DIGITAL entries are sent directly to judges for scoring in advance of the official judging weekend. BROADCAST entries will be judged at the same time non-digital entries.

Where do I get the entry bags? And where do I drop off the completed entries?

Kapowza recommends those choosing to drop off at their office park in the visitor circle lot behind the building. To find Kapowza's office, go in through the double doors under West Tower and find suite 240. Feel free to email marketing@kapowza.co to coordinate dropping off or for any questions.

OR Use your own manila envelope. Nothing larger than 30inches. 10x17 is ideal. 

Request bags via mail by contacting AAFB Director Pearl Ford-Fyffe (pearl@baltimoreadvertising.com / 410-821-6968). Mail requests must be made no later than Thursday, 12/20/18. Please provide the quantity of bags needed and a shipping address.

What if my entry doesn’t fit in the bag?

Just make sure the entry has the entry form and entry numbers attached to all parts of the entry. nothing larger than 30inches. 

What are the deadlines?

On Time Entries Due: January 4th by 4pm / Late Entries: January 8th by 4pm

** All entries received after January 4th at 4pm will incur a late fee.
Please note - Holiday hours will be in place from 12/22 - 1/2. Be sure to call ahead before dropping off entries.

Can I edit credits after I complete my submission?

No. Credits must be included at the time of your entry submission and you will not have an opportunity to make any changes once your submission has been made. These credits are used for local, district, and national.
