Due to ongoing concerns about COVID-19, the American Advertising Awards competition rules, categories and entry procedures for 2022-2023 have been modified to allow for the possibility of remote online judging.

In some categories, entrants are allowed and/or required to upload additional digital examples of an entry. This is intended to provide more appropriate content for the judges, should a virtual judging solution be necessary. For most categories, there has been no change from prior competition years.

Please carefully follow all online submission guidelines provided within the entry system, in order to ensure that your work is properly represented during all three tiers of the American Advertising Awards competition.

The American Advertising Awards, home of the ADDY® Award, is one of the industry's largest creative competitions, attracting nearly 30,000 professional and student entries each year through competitions offered through local AAF clubs. The mission of the American Advertising Awards is to recognize and reward the creative spirit of excellence in advertising.

Conducted annually by the American Advertising Federation (AAF), the local Ad Club phase is the first of a three-tier, national competition. Concurrently, all across the country, local entrants vie to win ADDY Awards - recognition as the very best in their markets. At the second tier, local ADDY winners compete against winners from other local clubs in one of 15 district competitions. District ADDY winners are then forwarded to the third tier, the national stage of the American Advertising Awards. Entry in your local Ad Club competition is the first step toward winning a national ADDY.

The AMERICAN ADVERTISING AWARDS competition is now back and we thank you for participating with your entry.

Again this year, all Hampton Roads AAF, AIGA and AMA members will be able to participate at FULL MEMBER DISCOUNT STATUS if you have a current paid membership with one of the local clubs.  While we would prefer you being an AAF member along with one or more of the other major clubs in Hampton Roads, we feel it's important that you have an ongoing involvement with at least one of the organizations supporting our area.  We hope that in the coming year as your business grows post-COVID's hardest several months, you choose to become a member of AAF as we get back to more events and moments that bring the advertising and business community together.

Just as COVID-19 prevented a 2020 and 2021 Gala, at this point we will not schedule a '22 AWARDS GALA until we see that it's absolutely safe for the entire ad community both young and old.  We want to congregate maskless and enjoy a memorable event that you would expect.  Because of this, we will be doing a multi-year acknowledgment of all '20, '21, & '22 award winners when that time comes that we can all gather safely.  The hope is for that happen at some point in either the late spring or early fall of 2022.  You will recieve an email so you know well in advance of the event when it is scheduled.


Business has come back over the past year and so has advertising, so while things still don't feel quite normal yet in public... the Ad business is BACK.  Show us your best work and we'll spread your good name and your work around Hampton Roads, the Mid-Atlantic at District #2 regional competition and then nationwide with the biggest names in advertising.
